Submerge is a unique, experiential, and powerful worship and prayer gathering. It'll be on Ash Wednesday (February 6) at 7pm. With interactive prayer stations, music, readings, and a centralized cross, this time of mostly undirected prayer is a great way to kick off the season of lent.

We'll need some help setting things up, so if you can help, e-mail us.

Thank you so much to everyone who participated in making Christmas Food Baskets for families of Friendsville Elementary students! The school was so blessed by our 20 gift baskets! They sent us a wonderful thank you card immediately for both the gift baskets and the work the youth group did when they had a work-day service project at the school! We are excited about the doors that God is opening so we can better serve our community! Thank you all for taking part and serving!

If you would like to know about more ways to serve the community, e-mail Diane. She is heading up our local missions team!

Changing Service Times to 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. - Entire Church Group

10.16.07

Beginning Sunday, October 28th our service times will be 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
Cafe times at 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

So, why the change?
Well, to put it simply, the earlier service has been much better attended than the later. This, quite frankly, was a surprise to me (Aaron)...Sharon saw it coming (anybody surprised?). We're hoping that if we move the services to 9 and 11am that we'll have something closer to a 50/50 split.

With one service being much larger than the other, the smaller of the two runs the risk of losing momentum and relevance...particularly as it can become a lower energy gathering and therefore less inviting to visitors.

I apologize if this is an inconvenience for you...we don't like to mess with service times, but our staff and leadership agree that this change is necessary, and that these more traditional service times will better position us to reach more people with the good news about Jesus.

Thanks for your flexibility. Email me if you have any questions.

Running the Race,
Pastor Aaron

Joska Informational Meeting - Missions

If you are interested in being a part of our efforts to serve the people of Joska, we are having an informational meeting Thursday, January 24th at 7pm in the sanctuary.

We will be discussing the over-arching vision for our efforts, and many of the specific ways we hope to carry that vision out. There will be a great opportunity to dialog and brainstorm about how we can be most effective, and bring about the greatest change.

This meeting will not primarily be about our trip to Joska this year...however, if you'd like to go on that trip, you should attend this meeting.

If you have any questions, email Aaron.

Some Help - Getting Started

We all need some help from friends in order to be faithful in keeping a daily devotion. It helps to have person, or a even a few people, who you can talk to openly about your devotions.

It's important to be specific. If a friends asks you about it, an answer like, "pretty good," or, "off-and -on" doesn't help anybody. Be prepared to answer them specifically, like, "I haven't missed a day in two weeks!" or, "I need some help, it's been four days since I last opened my Bible."

If you don't have an accountability partner, e-mail us, and we'll connect you with someone else who's looking for some help from a friend. e-mail us.

One really great way to stay accountable is to do your daily devotions on a blog. A blog is just an online journal. If you have a blog, your accountability partner(s) can go online and see how you're doing...and there's no room for stretching the truth...it's either there, or it isn't!

Here's an example from our Associate pastor: Sharon's SOAP blog.

Setting up a blog is actually very easy, and a lot of fun. You can get detailed step-by-step instructions right here.

Baptism at the Vineyard - Sundays

Rom 6:3-11 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. For one who has died has been set free from sin. Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God. So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. I’ve seen truly miraculous things happen. I’ve seen people healed right before my eyes. You know, the unexplainable stuff. I remember praying for someone and seeing (whether it was with my physical or my spiritual eyes, I’m not sure) God breath life and health back into them, and watching death simply retreat. But I’ve never seen anything that stirred me more deeply or resonated more clearly with my spirit, than watching someone being baptized. It’s more than symbolism. Now, the Bible makes it clear that it’s not what saves us, and it certainly is symbolic...but it’s more than symbolism. When the water splashes and the one being baptized falls out of view, a thousand inexpressible ideas collide as the whole of the Gospel is, in a sense, played out in front of us. We’re reminded of our fall into sin and, as a result, into death. It’s hard to imagine a greater state of helplessness than being dead and buried—every time I see a baptism, and the one being baptized testifies that God has rescued them from that state of helplessness, I remember well that Christ has done the same for me...and for us all. He followed us into death, by dying and being buried as well. And when He overcame death and was resurrected, He brought us with Him! From death to life. This, I believe, is why our baptism services have been the most moving and enthusiastic times of worship we’ve ever had. We gather to celebrate the victory of Christ in the lives of the ones being baptized...and in the process we rejoice all the more in our own stories, as we remember the unbelievable love and mercy of a God who came after us, to rescue us, and was willing to follow us even to the grave, to restore us to unity with Him and to glorify God the Father! Unfortunately, the Church is not unified on the subject of Baptism. There are legitimate Biblical arguments for each of the main views held by Bible-believing churches. However, we embrace wholeheartedly the positions that are most explicit and apparent in scripture. Where we stand is detailed below: Baptism at the Vineyard
Jesus commanded us to celebrate our new life through public baptism. That’s what Baptism is all about...celebrating your new life through Jesus! “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” 2 Corinthians 5:17 NLT Baptism is... · A step of obedience (Matthew 3:13-16)– Jesus set the example for us by being baptized to fulfill all righteousness, and told us to the same. · A statement of commitment (Romans 10:9-10)– Baptism serves as a public statement that we have surrendered our lives to Christ and that we believe in him. In baptism, we are declaring to the world that we belong to Christ and He is our Lord and Savior. · A symbol of the death, burial and resurrection of Christ (Romans 6:3-11)- Just as Christ gave His life for us and died, in making a decision to follow Christ, the person we were prior to becoming a follower of Christ is also dead. Modeling how Christ was buried and then resurrected from death, when being baptized we are buried in the water and then raised to become a new person. Why should I be baptized?1. You don't need to be baptized to be saved. You do need to be baptized to be obedient to Jesus. We are commanded to be baptized as a part of being His disciple. "Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit." (Mt. 28:19) Thus, we don't get baptized when we "feel like it," or when we "get around to it" or when we are "led to it by the Lord." Baptism is one of only two ordinances or rituals that Jesus commands us to observe for all time. The other is communion. 2. Baptism is a public profession of your faith. Baptism is done before a group of people who witness your confession of faith in Jesus Christ. Baptism is not the only way we profess to be a Christian, but it is an important way. 3. Baptism symbolizes your cleansing from sin. Baptism throughout the New Testament indicated that a person had "repented" or turned away from sin. The apostles often referred to the fact that believers were washed from sin. Peter stated that the water in baptism symbolized not the cleansing of the body from dirt, but the cleansing of the conscience. (1 Peter 3:21) 4. Baptism symbolizes your union with Jesus in His death, burial and resurrection. When you become a Christian, you die to sin and your old way of life and you begin a whole new life. Romans 6:8 states, "Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him." The very act of baptism (being immersed in the water and coming up out of the water) is a picture of what happens to you spiritually. When should I be baptized?
You should be baptized as soon as possible after you have personally trusted Christ for salvation and been "born again". Remember, you are not baptized in order to become a Christian. You are baptized because you are a Christian. We should not put off baptism, as it is a command of Jesus. What if I was baptized as an infant?
Perhaps you were baptized as an infant. How should you view that baptism? You certainly want to show respect to your parents and their viewpoints, as well as be grateful to God for any positive spiritual influence they had in your life. However, what the bible teaches is that baptism is an action that follows conversion. So, if you have not been baptized since you have made a decision for Christ, you need to be baptized. At the Vineyard, we do not baptize infants as do some denominations and traditions. Instead, we dedicate infants to the Lord and call parents to commit themselves to raise their children for Christ. We do this based on the model seen in scripture of infants being dedicated to the Lord. Should I be re-baptized if I was baptized at another church?
As long as you were born again when you were baptized, and as long as the other church was a Christian church, then you should not be re-baptized. If, however, your baptism was merely a church ritual done prior to your conversion or if the church was outside of the mainstream of Christianity, then we would encourage you to be validly baptized for the first time. Feel free to call our church offices to discuss this further with a pastor, if needed. Can my children be baptized?
Absolutely, as long as they thoroughly understand what they are doing. We ask that children and parents wait until the children can make an intelligent profession of faith that is their own. We certainly believe that a young child can be saved! This will vary from child to child. A child’s preparedness for baptism will be left up to the parents discretion, after speaking with a pastor. What should I do if I want to be baptized at the Vineyard?
Just let us know! You can contact our offices at 995-0504, you can e-mail us, or you can just drop a note in one of the offering boxes at church, and we’ll get in touch with you. If you’re interested in being baptized, or would like to know more about baptism, contact the Vineyard offices (865-995-0504), e-mail Aaron, or drop a note in an offering box and we’ll contact you!
Who We Are - About Us

Our church is a community of believers with Jesus Christ as its head. We seek to love, respect and care for one another as a demonstration of our love for God, and to do so in a way that is real, relaxed, relational, relevant, and reaching.

Our outreach is to those who have no church home. Many in our area are disillusioned with religion. They have felt the sting of legalism with its impossible demands. Some have seen hypocrisy. Others have had no religious background and therefore see Christianity as irrelevant.

So our goal is to show people what Jesus was really all about...by striving to be about the same things ourselves. Just like everybody else, we're sick and tired of pretense and self-righteousness. So we're intentional about shedding all those layers and embracing simplicity, and authenticity. We strive to be a great commission church.

Three Kinds of Confession - Articles

An article by Paul Stevens

The word “Confession” is quite common in the Bible and even in our everyday language. Anyone who knows the gospel of Jesus Christ is familiar with the importance of confession. But did you ever realize that there are three distinct types of confession spoken of in the New Testament? Confession unto Salvation
The first and foremost type of confession in the Bible and in our own salvation experience is the “confession unto salvation”. This confession has everything to do with the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is our confession of Jesus Christ as Lord. Peter had the revelation of who Jesus was in Matthew 16:16. “Simon Peter replied, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Peter’s confession here was not confession of sin or admittance of guilt. It was recognition of who Jesus actually was. Romans 10: 9 says; “Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” This verse is very clear. It even tells you exactly what to confess. And it is also clear that it is NOT a “silent confession” because it says, “confess with your mouth”. The verse following says “For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.” Again, this confession does not refer to the confession of our sins but to the confession of the name of Jesus as Lord, resulting in our salvation. The confession of the name of Jesus Christ had a negative result for some. The Jews would be put out of the synagogue and become marked out as followers of Jesus. John 9:22 His parents said these things because they feared the Jews, for the Jews had already agreed that if anyone should confess Jesus to be Christ, he was to be put out of the synagogue. John 12:42 Nevertheless, many even of the authorities believed in him, but for fear of the Pharisees they did not confess it, so that they would not be put out of the synagogue; The confession of Jesus Christ as Lord is no small thing. It brings us into salvation but it also brings glory to God. Philippians 2:9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. I think the most amazing thing about what Paul was talking about in Romans 10 was that in verse 13 he says; “For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." This is a quote from the Old Testament. It is referring to Joel 2:32 when the promise of salvation is made to “everyone who calls on the name of the LORD”. The word “Lord” here in the Hebrew is the same word often translated as “Jehovah”. In effect, Paul is changing the entire doctrine of what we should think about God. He is telling us that this Jesus is in fact, Jehovah. And this is also the one you need to call upon for your salvation. It has become my joy to call upon the name of Jesus. In Darby’s translation of the Bible, Psalm 116:12-13 says this; “What shall I render unto Jehovah, [for] all his benefits toward me? I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of Jehovah.” This is the way God has provided for us to take the cup of salvation, to call upon the name of Jesus Christ. (Jehovah, God with us.) In my experience, my absolute favorite prayer is just simply “Lord Jesus”. There are dozens of verses throughout the Bible that speak of calling on the name of the Lord. In fact, it was the way Saul used to identify the early Christians, to put them in prison and deliver them to death. Acts 9: 13 But Ananias answered, "Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much evil he has done to your saints at Jerusalem. 14 And here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call on your name." When the same Ananias finally met Saul, he did not ask him about what he saw or what he believed. He simply said “And now why do you wait? Rise and be baptized and wash away your sins, calling on his name.'” (Acts 22:16.) Later Paul wrote to the Corinthians the significance of speaking the name of the Lord Jesus. “Therefore I tell you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus be cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit.” (1 Corinthians 12:3) The Confession of Our Sins to God So now that I know I need to confess the name of Jesus, does that mean I can forget about my sins? Sorry. You don’t get off the hook quite that easily. There is still the need to confess our sins to God. But there is a good reason for that. John 1:9 says; “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Our problem is that we NEED forgiveness and we NEED to be cleansed from unrighteousness. This type of confession is a communication between God and us alone. The purpose of this kind of confession is to clear the way between God and us and remove all obstacles. It is in this type of confession that allows God to have a way to work in our hearts. This is the only way for us to maintain our fellowship with God. The forgiveness of our sins is based on one thing and one thing alone, the blood of Jesus Christ. John 1:7 “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.” I think we can get funny ideas about confessing our sins. Confession of sins is not a “promise to do better” or a self-analyzing of my heart to find things to confess. Confession is just an agreement and admission of my guilt before God. God touches my conscience with the guilt of my sin, and He only requires one simple thing from me, my acknowledgment through confession. It is my agreement of God’s assessment of my heart that allows the blood of Jesus to wash me. Also when God forgives our sins, He forgets them too. “For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.” (Hebrews 8:12). If God forgets our sins it is safe to say that we can too. Praise God! Confessing Our Sins to One Another So now that I know that I need to confess my sins to God, does that mean that I don’t need to tell anyone else? Well yes and no. There are definitely sins that other people do not need to know about. There are sins that might even stumble other believers if they knew. There are sins of the heart, such as bad feeling towards another brother, that if you walked right up to the person and said something it could be devastating. But there is a reason to confess our sins to one another. It is for our healing. “And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed.” (James 5: 15-16). Here James is telling us that there is a reason to confess our sins to one another. It is for our healing. Does this mean healing from an illness? It can mean that. But I think we have more problems with sickness in our spiritual hearts. The kind of sin that requires our confession to one another is the sin that we cannot escape from on our own. They are the sins that hold power over us. This can be a besetting sin. This can be sin that has just captured us and we are powerless to escape. This is by far the most difficult confession to make. In this kind of confession in which I must show someone else what is in my heart. Compared to this kind of confession, confessing to God is easy. He already knows what is in my heart, but you don’t know the secret sins I struggle with. This kind of confession must be done with the utmost caution and must be carried out seriously. When I confess a sin like this to another person, it must the right person. It must be to a person who will pray for my healing, hold me accountable but also not be stumbled by my sin. This for me is the most difficult form of confession, but it has also brought me the greatest freedom and relief. This is a testimony to the importance of the entire body of Christ. We desperately need each other and the best part is that we have each other. If you are struggling with a sin that will not let you go, this is the sure cure.

PRUNED - An Article by Matt Rodgers - Articles

"I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.”
John 15:1-4

Recently, things in my career have taken a turn for the worse. That might not be honest enough: my company is on the verge of bankruptcy. Times like these are usually accompanied by a lot of introspection. How did I get here? What went wrong? What did I do wrong? (Who else can I blame this on?) What can I do now?
The thing of it is – all those questions assume that I’m in control. As a society, we’ve gotten so far away from our roots as humans that we’ve created the illusion we are in control. Our ancestors knew they had to go out and work the land, but only God could provide rain. Today we’ve created the illusion that with proper management we can make rain. It’s an illusion that unfortunately, I had come to believe.
Last year we had a great year and I made all of the same mistakes, if not more. God blessed us in spite of myself. That’s called Grace. This year, I had come to believe that I made it rain. God won’t bless me when I do that. “I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father.”
John 14:14 God wants to work in us, through faith, to bring glory to him. The moment I stop trusting in him and trusting in myself, I’ve taken faith out of the picture. And no glory is given to God. A major mistake I made was to try and force things by the strength of my own hand. I tried working longer. I hired consultants. I tried doing more things myself instead of delegating. I tried to pray in just the right way. I tried everything except just trusting in God.
Another pitfall I fell into was praying for God to help me. I asked God for specific sales at specific accounts. What’s wrong with that? Maybe nothing, it depends on the motivation behind the prayer. For me, it was praying for God to come and help me do things my way. God wants me to seek him and seek out how I can join in what he’s doing and to trust that what he’s doing is far better than what I could ever do. The single biggest and most dangerous mistake I made is that I stopped spending an intentional, dedicated time with God. When that happens in my marriage, we turn from lovers into roommates. Emily will not accept that, but for some reason I think that God will. Haphazard time is not enough. When I stopped doing that, I lost the chance for God to tell me what he wanted from me. So what can we learn from all this? Is God punishing me by withholding success from my business? I don’t believe that is the case, though scripture gives many examples of God punishing his children. I believe that I am being pruned. I have not been living in faith and trusting God. My life, even if successful, would give no glory to God. I believe that God wants me to trust in him and has taken me to a place where I have no choice but to trust in him. Now that I’ve recognized this, will God bless the company again? I don’t know. Please pray with me that God will bless us in such a way that it could only come from him and that it will glorify him and not me. But regardless of what happens, the exciting thing is that “he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.” That’s called Grace, too. Matt Rodgers

An Interview with our VLI Students: - Articles

         Vineyard Leadership Institute:
Act like a leader. Think like a scholar. Love like the Lord.

This fall we started as a satellite campus of VLI. VLI was created to integrate hands-on training, ministry experience, spiritual formation, and academic understanding with an uncompromising commitment to excellence in biblical-theological, ministerial and spiritual-formational training. That’s a mouthful, isn’t it!

The instructors are experienced pastors: recognized theologians who are committed to Vineyard-style ministry and who are experts in the fields that they teach.

Now, with the first quarter under their belts, we asked our first two students (Neil and Paul) about their experience so far:
Why did you decide to enroll in VLI this semester? Neil: In March of 06 I felt God calling me into the ministry. I knew that to fulfill my calling I would need in-depth training in not only Biblical principles but also in Leadership. After discussing my options with Leslie and Aaron I felt that VLI would provide the training and discipline I need to effectively fulfill the calling God has for my life. Paul: I decided to enroll in VLI to better prepare myself for Church Planting in the next couple years. Knowing that I would need to gain a deeper knowledge of the Word, and to have more hands-on ministry training, VLI was a great opportunity for me! What has been the most beneficial thing about VLI so far? Neil: This is my first semester in VLI and already I have seen a drastic improvement in my ability to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This has been achieved through the realization of how God has wired me and through the studying of God’s Kingdom in this present age and the age to come. I have gained a deeper understanding of God’s sovereign plan for my life and this world. Paul: The most beneficial thing about VLI so far has been the way it has refocused my life in what should be my number one priority; and that is Christ. By doing so it has brought me back to the basics that I may have overlooked from being a Christian for awhile and also opened my eyes & ears more to hear God's will in my life. Who would you recommend take VLI? Neil: I would recommended VLI to people who long for a deeper understanding of God and His scriptures, and who feel God calling them to a life dedicated to serving the needs of the community of believers. If that be planting churches, running ministries or serving as a lay person in the church. VLI is not designed for the faint hearted seeing that it requires a large amount of your time and dedication. Paul: Anyone who is willing to just dig in deeper with your understanding of the Word and your relationship with Christ, and feels called to serve other believers. Why would you recommend VLI to others?
Neil: Taking VLI has been one of the most worthwhile experiences of my life. Throughout the first quarter I have been challenged to have a closer walk with God. Paul: Personally, I think it will take God out of that box we so like to place Him in and remind you that he is bigger than you can ever imagine. Along with that, if you are wanting to have a deeper and better understanding of scripture and theology, this is awesome! What has been the most challenging thing about VLI so far? Neil: I have not been in school for 8 years. Disciplining myself to read and study on a daily basis has been a challenge, but well worth the time and dedication! Paul: Getting back into the time management of studying, and working. Let me tell you though don't let that discourage you ‘cause it can be done!! What is the average amount of time you spend per week in class for VLI? Neil: We have 2 classes a week that are 3 hours a piece. In addition, I spend between 3 and 12 hours a week reading, writing papers and preparing for the exams. Two weekends a quarter we have intensives in which we spend 8 hours in lecture. Paul: We spend a little over 2 1/2hrs in each class. The videos are about an 90 minutes, then we spend time in prayer and discussion. How has VLI helped you now and how will it help you in the future? Neil: During the first quarter of VLI our classes included The Leader’s Self Understanding and Spiritual Formation, The Synoptic Gospels, and Acts and Missions. Through these classes I have gained a deeper understanding of God’s Kingdom and how I fit into God’s plan. I have learned to evaluate myself and my relationship with God, changing many of my daily routines in order to more fully embrace the grace of God in my life and in my relationships with others. I look forward to the further studying of God’s word in order to improve my ministry and daily walk. VLI has and will continue to be a valuable training ground for me to become a better husband, leader, pastor and one-day father. Paul: VLI has helped me challenge myself each day to keep my relationship growing at an incline and not staying at plateau. Additionally, it has helped me get a better understanding for scripture and the way we should be living our lives as Christians. This will help me in the future when I go to church plant and lead others in the way Christ has commanded us to live.

God is Not Gray-An Article by Paul Stevens - Articles

As humans beings we like to rate things. We like to grade things according to our preference and according to our taste. We use expressions like, “On a scale of one to ten, how would you rate it?” I was at the hospital once and the nurse asked, “How much pain do you feel on a scale of one to five, five being the worst?” I like to talk about food and music that way. I say things like. “That is one of my top ten favorite meals-songs-movies etc.” We like to judge people by grades also. We say things like “He’s not perfect but he’s better than other people I know.” Or, “He has his faults but he has his good qualities too.” God however does not rate things in grades. He does not say that some things are kind of OK and other things are not kind of OK. God sees everything in black or white. I noticed that as Christians we sometimes like to rate people based on how sinful they are. We think that a homosexual is much worse than an adulterer and a murderer is much worse than either one. What about someone who covets another person’s possessions? We certainly would not put them in the same category as the adulterers or the murderers. To me, someone who is a liar is a little bit better than someone who steals. Probably everyone has their own opinion about which sins are worse and which ones are acceptable because we may do the very same things. But to God, sin is sin and there is no grading on a curve with God. To God, all who have sinned, no matter how great or small that sin may seem, God sees it as sin and nothing else. And according to the Bible, all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23 But conversely God is also only pleased with one thing. God is only pleased with His Son, Jesus Christ. He is pleased and delighted in Jesus Christ and nothing else. Everything else just falls short. In Genesis there is a good example of Christ and His church. After God created man He said that is was not good for man to be alone. Genesis 2:18 Adam, in this passage, is a type of Christ. Here God is saying it is not good for Christ to be alone. Christ needs a bride, a counterpart and that bride is His church. God proceeded to bring all types of animals before Adam and he named them all. I once thought that this showed how amazing Adam’s intellect was that he could name all of those creatures, but Genesis 2:20 shows us the real reason God had brought all of the animals before him. The end of the verse says “but for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him.” The point of this naming exercise was to see if there was anything that could match Adam, something that would be his counterpart. Of all the created beings there was none that could compare with Adam. Not one of them could be on the same level and be what Adam needed. At this point God put Adam into a deep sleep and took out one of his ribs. The bible says that God built the rib into a woman and brought her to the man. Genesis 2:21-22 When Adam saw the woman he said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh”. Genesis 2:23 Adam found that the only thing that could match him was what came out from him. The only one that could be his counterpart, his mate, is the very one who was made up of his very own bone and flesh. Christ is the same today as Adam was in the garden with the animals. We may do many things that we think are good enough for God. We produce works out of our own efforts and bring them to God hoping He will accept them. We try to be godly people and we try to do good deeds to make God happy. But this is just the same as bringing the animals to Adam. No matter how good we think our good is, it is not good enough for God. Christ may look at your works and say, “That is a very nice donkey or dog or lama or giraffe, but it’s not Me.” Christ will only be satisfied with what comes forth from Him. He will only be pleased with “Christ in you” and not anything that we can muster up on our own. I have been in conversations with fellow believers about their friends or relatives and I will ask them, “Is your friend a Christian?” I will sometimes get a reply like, “Well they are sort of a Christian but not really.” This is another gray area that does not exist with God. God does not see really bad sinners on one end of the spectrum and really good Christians on the other end. To God, either you are in Adam or you are in Christ. Either you are perishing in the old creation or you are a new creation in Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:17 There is no third choice. There is no part way with God. 1 Corinthians 15:22 says, “For as in Adam, all die. Even so in Christ, all will be made alive.” This is a very definite distinction. Christ being in us is similar to the rib that was taken from Adam. When Christ died on the cross (His deep sleep) that was where God found the materials to build Christ’s bride. When we receive Christ, something of Christ (His Spirit) gets into us and begins to grow. The building of the woman begins. The thing that pleases God the most is watching Christ grow in us. The more Christ grows in us, the more the woman is built. When Christ returns for His bride (His church) He will say just as Adam did, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh”. The totality of all of the Christians from the beginning of the church age until the end of time will be the corporate bride of Christ. Revelation 19:7 and 21:9 The goal God has for us is not self-improvement and God does not expect us to try hard to become better people than we are. God wants for Christ to live in us. God wants Christ to rule our lives from the inside out. The purpose of being a Christian is not for us to believe in Jesus and then try hard to reform ourselves. That is putting the cart before the horse. The point of believing into Christ is just what Paul said to the Galatians. “I have been crucified with Christ and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith, the faith of the Son of God who loved me and gave Himself for me.” Galatians 2:20 We don’t need to try to do anything other than remain with Jesus, abiding in Him. The Spirit will work if we let Him and He will have a way in us when we stop our own trying and let God work in us. This makes God happy and God becomes our greatest joy. Remember, we can never be “good enough” to make God happy. If we try to do this we will only end in failure and disappointment. Jesus Christ in us is the one who satisfies God and He also satisfies us. He is the one who is our hope and if we put our trust in Him we will not be put to shame. Romans 9:33

Why did you miss membership class? Gotta blame it on something. Casey, Aaron and Sharon explain... Milli Vanilli style:

Fowler.....is.....Bolton! He asks Katy, "How can we be members if we can't commit"?

Did Garth just sing "the way they roll"?

The Women's Ministry consists of friendship, encouragement, support, service, and study. Our Women's Ministry is all about recognizing that God is the Potter and we are the Clay! We encourage one another to become all that God is molding and shaping us to be - which come in many shapes and sixes. There are so many things that fall under our "Umbrella of Women's Ministry". We go on retreats together that are absolutely amazing times of spiriual and relational growth! We have a 20 & 30 Something LifeGroup that meets on Tuesday nights (see small groups page), and a Bible study that meets every Tuesday morning in the cafe. We also have a Moms LifeGroup that meets on Wednesday mornings in the cafe. And we have a Moms Ministry (see page) that meets weekly and gets together often for special events like walking groups, birthday parties, outings, and more!

We go on retreats together that are absolutely amazing times of spiriual and relational growth! We usually go on 2 retreats a year: one that is just the women of our church where we meet in a huge cabin in Pigeon Forge, and one that is the women of several Vineyard churches coming together that is hosted by different churches each year. Any time we can get away and focus on God is always a good time and a refreshing time!

This LifeGroup meets on Tuesday nights at 7pm at Casey's house. This LifeGroup is very relaxed, fun, and supportive - we support each other through all the ups and downs of life. It's a great place to just be yourself as we study God's word and how it applies to our lives today. And the greatest thing is that you'll always know that there are people pray ing for you throughout the week. There are some married women in this group, but mostly it consists of women who are YBS - Young, Blessed, and Single! Together, we encourage one another to be strong, humble, Godly, courageous women (as see by the picture)! Please see the LifeGroup page for more details.

The Box is our need meeting system. It's basically an e-mail database. If you have a need, can meet a need, or know about a need that someone else has, just submit it to the Box. You can do that either by sending an e-mail to the box, or by filling out a card and dropping it into the actual Box at church on Sunday.

Then we'll take that need, and submit it in the form of an e-mail to everyone in our database (whenever possible, this is done anonymously). Then we watch, as God's people respond to meet the needs that are listed.

If you would like to be added to the Box's database (that way, you too will be notified when there are needs), just send an email to the box and ask to be added...or, again, drop a note in the actual box on Sunday.E-mail the box now!
