Ours to Give: Justice

17 November 2011 490 views No Comment

“Do justice.”

The Bible clearly says it… but what does it mean? In a courtroom when the innocent are freed and the guilty are punished, justice is being done.

But the gospel is all about us NOT getting what we deserve! We are people who have been rescued by undeserved grace. So this sermon series will look at how we “do justice” and the philosophy of generosity at the Vineyard.

Must Have Gifts:

  1. Christmas has certainly gotten commercialized? Is it too much? If you could change the norm, what would you change? Why?
  2. What are some real must have gifts? Have you ever been without those things?
  3. Recap and discuss the needs we’re trying to respond to (an FM system for Bindi, Elderly care, and food/bunk-beds/generator in Haiti). Why are these needs easy to overlook?

Haiti:

  1. For 2012 our missions focus will be in Haiti, partnering with ReachHaiti ministries. We will be traveling there, hopefully several times. Have you been on a mission trip? What was it like? Will you be going to Haiti? Could you go as a group?
  2. What stood out the most from Mike and Andrea’s video and discussion of what ReachHaiti has been doing in Haiti?

Identifying:

  1. How did Jesus identify with the poor?
  2. How did Jesus identify with victims of injustice?
  3. How can we follow his example?
  4. What does it mean for us to identify with people in need? How does that differ from having pity?
  5. Does knowing that Jesus likely spent his entire life in abject poverty impact the way you view the poor in our society?

Pray for each other!
