Crisis in Haiti

The devastation in Haiti is immense.  As a church, we are praying about how God can use us to show compassion and mercy.  Information is sparse and unreliable.  Transportation systems are jammed.

The Vineyard USA’s Mercy Response ministry is working on setting up a “base camp” in Haiti so that as a movement we can respond quickly and responsibly.  There is an existing partnership between Vineyard USA and Convoy of Hope, which has given “boots on the ground” so that we can act wisely.

Here’s how you can respond, now:

  1. Pray.  Please recognize that God is the answer in this situation.  Pray for the people of Haiti.  Pray for the kingdom to come and bring hope and life.
  2. Give.  All of the money that is donated to The Box this Sunday will go to disaster relief in Haiti.  There are many good organizations that are bringing aid and need our support.  We will be supporting Mercy Response, and Convoy of Hope.  Feel free to give to other organizations, but do a little bit of homework first to make sure they are legit.
  3. Plan on joining us this Sunday.  Between services (10:25-10:55) Pastor Aaron will be leading us in corporate prayer in the sanctuary.

As you pray, and as you give, reflect on the Lord.  He’s moving even in this.  This article will prove helpful, too.

Luke 10:33-35  - A Samaritan traveling the road came on him. When he saw the man’s condition, his heart went out to him. He gave him first aid, disinfecting and bandaging his wounds. Then he lifted him onto his donkey, led him to an inn, and made him comfortable. In the morning he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, “Take good care of him. If it costs any more, put it on my bill—I’ll pay you on my way back.”
